Overview

The MIL Campus Science Complex serves as the centerpiece of Université de Montréal’s new Campus MIL, consolidating teaching, research, and public-facing academic functions into a single, integrated facility. The complex brings together four science departments, chemistry, physics, biological sciences, and geography, within two interconnected pavilions organized around shared learning spaces, laboratories, and a central library.

The project’s laboratory-intensive program introduced significant airflow and exhaust requirements, particularly within research spaces, mechanical zones, and rooftop systems. Ventex supplied louver solutions integrated into the building envelope to support these requirements while maintaining architectural clarity across the glass-dominated façade. Louvers were coordinated to manage high air-change rates, laboratory exhaust, and mechanical ventilation demands without disrupting the visual transparency central to the project’s design.

Working with our Partner

Ventex collaborated with the project team to support louver integration across a technically complex academic facility constructed on a remediated brownfield site. Coordination focused on aligning louver performance with laboratory exhaust systems, mechanical penthouse equipment, and façade screening elements distributed across multiple elevations.

Collaboration focused on:

  • Selecting louver systems suited for laboratory exhaust and high air-volume applications

  • Coordinating shop drawings with curtain wall, fins, and façade screening elements

  • Supporting rooftop mechanical zones serving research and teaching spaces

  • Aligning fabrication and delivery with phased construction and early academic occupancy

Ventex’s technical support and responsive coordination helped ensure airflow performance requirements were met across evolving lab layouts and academic schedules.

Results

Ventex louver solutions were successfully integrated throughout the MIL Campus Science Complex to support consistent ventilation performance across laboratories, teaching spaces, and shared campus facilities. The solutions contribute to a building designed for adaptability, long-term academic use, and reliable mechanical performance within a research-intensive environment.
